This blade form is one of the oldest traditional knives still produced today. Its emergence is; It coincides with the Emperor Meiji period, when the samurai tradition was banned. The first examples appear in the Miki region in 1896. The origin of the name of this knife is in Kyushu Island (Kyushu Island is the region today called Kumamoto.) This used to be HIGO province. This name means 'protector' and is a title given by the Shogun to high-ranking Samurai. These knives are the removal of their swords along with the samurai, and their culture continues to be embraced despite the prohibitions, with the Japanese blacksmiths being out of work.
As a result, Samurai swords are now in pocket form.
These knives have a handle formed by folding a single piece of metal sheet and an inverted tanto barrel resembling a razor. It is a friction pocket knife without any lock. The barrel opens with a crowbar, which is an extension of itself. The original name of this crowbar is 'Chikiri'. This crowbar also prevents the barrel from going further back. In general, who produced it is written on the handle part and the barrels are opened zero and straight.
These knives have cultural value and are sought after by collectors. However, they are preferred because they are used in daily life. These knives are simple and do all kinds of work. In fact, it is common for students to use them as pencil sharpeners.
